Intensive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Intermediate 1
Aim of Course:This course aims to build your confidence in communication skills so that you can take part more fully in social, work and study situations. At this level, you will work on expanding your vocabulary, become more accurate in written and spoken English and develop skills to understand or communicate in routine and non-routine situations. There is a focus on real language for real life situations and there will be lots of practice through role-play, discussions and use of our modern language laboratory. You will also complete project work using English and other skills.
Course Content:
The course will include the following units:
ESOL: Everyday Communication, ESOL: Transactional Contexts, ESOL: Work and Study Related Contexts, Personal Development Planning, Working with Others, Problem Solving, Introduction to IT, Job Seeking Skills, Personal Presentation, ESOL and Citizenship, Study Skills, Writing for Work.
On successful completion of the course, you will have an SQA ESOL Intermediate 1 qualification as well as Reid Kerr College certification.
Duration:
The full-time ESOL courses take place five days a week, either morning or afternoon. Courses run from August 2010 until June 2011.
Educational Progression:
Learners can progress to Intensive ESOL Intermediate 2 level. Stronger candidates may be ready to progress on to College courses in other subjects at NC level.
Career Progression:
Successful completion of this course will help you in your daily life in Scotland as well as improve your job prospects and open up study or training opportunities.
Qualification Progression:
Applicants will be expected to have successfully completed an Access 3 level qualification or the equivalent. All applicants will be invited for an interview and you will be assessed so that we can advise you on the most suitable level for your needs.
