Higher Psychology (Evening)
Aim:
This course provides an opportunity for the students to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Human Psychology. This is achieved by studying approaches and topics in the subject of psychology that helps us to understand and explain the human mind and behaviour.
Length of Study:
36 weeks with tutor support.
Students enrolling for more than one Higher will have to complete each Higher simultaneously. (ie 36 weeks for each Higher starting and finishing on the same date.
SCQF Level: 6
Entry Requirements:
It would be advantageous if students had a Credit pass in Standard Grade English, Communication 4 or Higher English.
Contents:
Unit 1 - Understanding the Individual
This unit studies the individual within society from a development, cognitive and physiological perspective.
Unit 2 - Investigating Behaviour
This unit covers the processes involved in practical research.
Unit 3 - The Individual in the Social Context
This unit covers topics from both Social Psychology and the Psychlogy of Individual Differences.
Study Method:
Home-based self-study with a tutor to contact for help and advice.
Assessment:
Three written assessments, one at the end of each unit. (A research project worth 20% of the final mark). These will be carried out in College as agreed with the tutor. An external assessment that will determine the final grade for the course. A preliminary examination to prepare for the external assessment. Please note that external examination takes place in June.
Cost:
This years highers tuition is being offered FREE of charge, however £90 per Higher will be charged to part time students to cover the examination fee and a nominal administration charge. Students may be eligible or an ILA please contact Student Services for more details.
