Chris Walker, 19 from Houston, travelled to Edinburgh recently to take part in the annual carpentry and joinery competition organised by the Scottish Association of Timber Trade Teachers (SATTT). Currently studying Carpentry & Joinery in his 1st year at Reid Kerr College in Paisley, Chris finished a credible 4th equal as he pitted his skills against students from 22 other colleges in Scotland.
Colleges in Scotland can enter one student from the Carpentry & Joinery course to participate and the students have to make a model on the day from scratch. Chris's model was a key storage cupboard.
Neil Bryceland, Senior Lecturer from Reid Kerr said, "The SATTT competition is probably the most highly regarded Joinery competition in Scotland and it is a privilege for us to be able to enter one of our students each year. Chris, a 1st year student, was one of the youngest taking part, performing exceptionally well producing quality work with speed. He represented the College and his employer, Renfrewshire Council, very well and he must be congratulated for his efforts."
