More Music students at The Spree

Laurahitsville

The Spree is a new national festival to be held in Paisley from 25-28 October 2012. Traditional cultural venues in the town such as Paisley Abbey, Paisley Town Hall and Paisley Arts Centre will be joined by a Spiegeltent in County Square for the festival.

Graduates of Reid Kerr College Music Section will be playing in the Spiegeltent on the 25th and 26th October at 5pm. These gigs are FREE to the public. On the 26th, Friday evening, Laura Carswell will perform solo.

Recent graduate, Laura Carswell, seized every opportunity and as a result gained an incredible amount of performance experience through studying at the college. She supported Scottish Album of the Year Award winners Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat, played at Paisley Arts Centre supporting Roddy Woomble of Idlewilde, performed four times at the ABC (O2 Glasgow), entertained Russian exchange students in Reid Kerr's New St. theatre, gigged with her college band in Stereo and Nice n Sleazys (Glasgow Venues), opened the Fine Art show with a set at Paisley Museum and delivered a successful acoustic show in Caledonian University.

Laura is now studying for her degree in Music. At University she won the opportunity to tour Canada and perform for three weeks there. She has just completed her first EP, which will be released on November 10.

Laura Carswell said, "Travelling and touring around Canada was definitely life changing, both  musically and emotionally. I came home with great confidence in myself and in my music. My month away from home also inspired my creativity, I now feel that anything is possible, as long as I keep on the right path.

My time at RKC was two of the best years of my life. The creativity and performance opportunities within the course prepared me greatly for the tour and also developed me as a performer. Without RKC, I would not be where I am and I'll be forever grateful for the support from RKC lecturers.

I'm really excited to be playing at the Spree festival this year. I'm also very happy to be performing alongside Julia and the Doogans and Rebecca Wallace, as I am a fan of both. I think that a new music festival will be great for the people of Paisley and I hope that it will continue each year."spreeLogo.jpg
