Players at St. Mirren Football Club are sliding into action with brand new training equipment courtesy of Reid Kerr College.  The Engineering department at the College were tasked with designing and creating “Power slider” training aids for the team.

The project to design and fabricate the units was taken on by Frank Vernal a lecturer within the Engineering section who identified a group of NC Engineering students that he felt would benefit from this experience.

Near the end of the season,Craig McGinlay, Sports Scientist at St. Mirren approached Reid Kerr College and tasked the students with designing the Powerslider. “The Power Sliders will be used to help enhance the teams overall fitness and will be of great benefit to the club, in their quest for faster and fitter players.   The sled can be used for heavy sub-maximal work, assistance work, speed and power work, fat burning, and overall endurance/fitness & conditioning work.

St Mirren Manager Danny Lennon said, “The Club would like to thank both the students and the Engineering staff for the work they have done.   They have produced a high quality piece of equipment which will go a long way in helping St. Mirren Football Club from First Team down to Youth Academy Level.”
